There are situations where you have completed your preparation, conducted the interviews, and taken references — and still feel uncertain about the decision. Not because the process was poor, but because the stakes are high and the decision is difficult.
In those cases, a second opinion can be worth more than it costs.
What a second opinion is
It is not a way of delegating the decision. It is a way of obtaining a stronger basis for making it yourself.
When it pays off
When the role is critical and the consequences of a poor hire are significant. When two final candidates are closely matched and the deciding factor is difficult to articulate. When the internal recruitment team lacks experience of the specific role or level.
And when gut feeling and factual evidence point in different directions. Then it is almost always worth understanding why.
A final reflection
A second opinion is not a sign that something has gone wrong. It is a sign that you understand what is at stake and want to make a considered decision.
Det är leadership.
