It is a question that is rarely asked. And even less often answered honestly.
Most companies have a rough idea of what they have. Employment contracts exist, some onboarding material exists, the salary process works reasonably well.
But what is missing? What is out of date? What exists on paper but not in practice?
What an HR review is
It is a systematic assessment of your HR structure — documents, processes, procedures and competency — to give you a clear picture of where you are.
Not to find fault. But to understand what works, what is missing, and what needs to be prioritized.
What it usually reveals
In most companies I have conducted HR reviews with, we find three types of gap:
- Documents that exist but are not used. A harassment policy nobody knows about. An onboarding process that describes 2019 — not 2026.
- Processes that are missing entirely. No clear procedure for salary reviews. No plan for what happens during a long-term sick leave.
- Competency gaps. Managers handling HR matters without the support or training to do so.
What it gives you
- Clarity. A concrete picture of where you are — not a feeling that you are probably doing all right.
- Prioritering. En lista över vad som behöver åtgärdas nu, vad som kan vänta och vad som är tillräckligt bra.
- Confidence. Knowing that your HR structure will hold when it counts.
