It happens. You meet a candidate who is exactly right – but the timing is off.
Perhaps the position is not yet fully defined. Perhaps the budget is not in place. Perhaps you are reorganizing in three months and do not yet know what the roles will look like.
I have seen this scenario many times. And there are two common mistakes.
The first: you wait too long. By the time you are ready, the candidate has accepted something else.
The second: you force a decision too early and hire into the wrong structure, with the wrong expectations set from day one.
What actually works is honesty – with the candidate and with yourself. What do we know? What do we not know? What needs to be in place before this can work?
A good recruitment process is as much about timing and honesty as it is about competence and fit.
If you have thoughts, questions, or simply want to talk something through – feel free to get in touch.
