Most organizations have a plan for Q4. Fewer have thought through what it actually requires.
There's a big difference between having a list of goals and having a realistic picture of what needs to be in place – in terms of people, decisions, and prerequisites – for those goals to be achievable.
Three HR areas that determine how Q4 lands
- Rekryteringar som måste vara klara för att behålla momentumet. Om någon behöver vara på plats i november är processen redan försenad. En recruitment på specialist- eller chefsnivå tar i regel 8–12 veckor – plus inskolning.
- The salary review. It's coming regardless. The question is whether you're going in prepared. Do you have clear criteria in place? Are your managers ready for the conversations that follow a decision?
- The competency needs for next year. If next year's plan requires something you don't have today – when does the work of getting it actually begin?
A question that gives more than most plans
What is the single most important thing we need to succeed with in Q4 for next year to start right – and what does that require of us as a leadership team?
That question, if asked honestly, often surfaces both priorities and vulnerabilities that no documented plan captures.
No plan is perfect – but some are better prepared
An organization that enters Q4 with a clear picture of what's prioritized, what conditions are needed, and where the vulnerabilities lie is in a fundamentally stronger position than one that pushes forward and hopes it works out.
It's not a question of perfection. It's a question of preparation.
